HUMUS is the most biologically fertile layer of soil, feeding the seeds that later sprout into roots, stems and leaves. Applied to folk and traditional music, you could say that humus is made up of anonymous people who have preserved or created traditional music and songs, amateur groups who perform all over the country and hundreds of students and trainees in schools teaching traditional folk music in the Països Catalans (the Catalan Countries). The HUMUS MEDITERRANI programme will concentrate on publicising the work of all these people.

HUMUS MEDITERRANI is an initiative by D'Arrel, a music and gastronomy venue that ran the very first in-house programme of traditional and folk music in Manresa and Central Catalonia during the 2012-2013 academic year. The intention is to provide a platform for professional groups performing the purest style of folk music, as well as to publicise amateur and community folk groups, plus groups formed by students of special kinds of traditional folk music.

The HUMUS MEDITERRANI programme will be put together by an advisory panel formed by experts and members of the D’Arrel venue in Manresa. The period for presenting music proposals for HUMUS MEDITERRANI runs from 20 April to 31 May. As this will be an exhibition section running as part of Fira Mediterrània, most concerts will be free of charge. All groups taking part will appear in the Fira Mediterrània publicity campaign.

You can present your music proposals from 20 April to 31 May by completing the form on the web http://www.darrel.cat/?page_id=467
