On Thursday 4 October at 6pm, the 15th Fira Mediterrània of Manresa will start selling all tickets for the shows being performed in the city between 8 and 11 November. Sales for season ticket shows opened on 5 September. Up until 31 October, Fira will be offering reduced prices for people buying tickets in advance.
This year's Fira has a brand new section: Nostrum. Treasures of the Mediterranean, with four concerts in the amazing La Seu venue featuring Mediterranean musical gems that must be preserved and publicised at all costs. Evo, a Catalan-Valencian quartet presenting a new repertoire that concentrates on ancient music; Naseer Shamma, regarded as one of the greatest oud players in the world; Xavier de Bétera, an amazing and promising young talent on the Valencian folk music scene, plus Tempvs Fvgit, a group performing Corsican polyphonic songs a capella.
About performing arts section, Manresa hosts Tots aquests dois, a tribute to Guillem d’Efak by Pep Tosar, coming to Fira after receiving great reviews from critics and audiences for their debut performance in Barcelona, will be staging a musical in ten chapters tracing the most significant events in the life of d’Efak, who Tosar met in person. Pep Tosar is also seeing a dream come true, to sing ten of the singer-songwriter’s most well-known numbers, recreated in La Cova del Drac, the legendary café where d´Efak used to while away many afternoons and many nights. Fira brings also Acorar, about a day of a slaughtery in Majorca by Produccions de Ferro; and Cartes de Tahrir, a work written by Pau Carrió from the content of social media during the days of the Egyptian revolution.
For the first time in the marquee based in Plaça Milcentenari, Fira is holding two themed nights, with two concerts featuring a wide and carefully chosen range of rumba and folk acts performing on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Tickets will be sold separately for each dance night, with three groups performing on the 9th and four on the 10th. On Saturday, the Milcentenari venue will be hosting a night of folk dancing, with Bruel and 21 Boutons presenting new albums; the legendary El Pont d’Arcalís and la Carrau, celebrating their 15th anniversary. Friday is Rumba night, with Remendaos, Achilifunk Sound System and Canteca de Macao, the group that has taken rumba far and wide to a multitude of festivals with young audiences and is currently enjoying the sweet taste of success.
Family shows are also a major part of the programme. Families can choose from over 25 shows for young children: ranging from Almazuela, by Cia. Roberto G. Alonso, aimed at children aged from 6 months to 2 years, to the innovative new format show Lava, by Studio Orka and Teatre Lliure. Also paying a visit to Manresa will be the prestigious Compagnia TPO, with their show Kindur, combining dance and audio-visual effects.
Season ticket shows went on sale from 5 September: Niño Josele + Cobla Sant Jordi featuring guest artist Paolo Fresu, thrilling Klezmer music from Polish line-up Kroke, and Brams + la Banda de l’Escola Municipal de Música de Berga, plus the opening show featuring Andrés Marín’s Flamenco dance show, Tuétano, the excpetional voice of Noa; the two Sala Stroika concerts (today’s hottest open-air venue, with Esne Beltza and Lenacay), and circus magic from Italian company Nando e Maila in the beautiful marquee installed in Museu de la Tècnica.
