The initiative is promoted by the sector committee representing the town’s popular and traditional culture organisations and the intention is to tackle a series of problems, such as generational handover and better visibility for events held by local organisations.
On 22 and 23 November, the Sant Boi-Can Barraquer museum will be holding its first Popular and Traditional Culture Event in Sant Boi, with the aim of holding joint discussions between organisations and the administration. The initiative is promoted by the sector committee representing the town’s popular and traditional culture organisations and the intention is to tackle a series of problems, such as generational handover and better visibility for events held by local organisations. A number of activities will be taking place over the two days, including a photography exhibition, videos and workshops for children and adults to display the cultural capital of these organisations. A round table is also planned, with discussions focusing on traditional culture and 21st century challenges, attended by specialists and associations in Catalonia and the local region, plus a practical workshop on tools and methods for improving your identity as an organisation both within and outside the relevant networks.
Fira Mediterrània of Manresa will be chairing a round table session involving Carles Serret, director of the Sant Boi historic archive and someone who has first-hand experience of local issues; Paco Cruz, an associations expert from Granollers Town Council; Josep Batet, who coordinates the recovery of traditional dances in the town of Valls and is an active member of popular culture associations; a member of the Federació Bestiari del Baix Llobregat, plus Andrés Castro Merino, member of Rolde Aragonés de Barcelona for many years and an active member of the Sant Boi community. This first event will end with all the contributing groups taking part in a parade that will make its way to the main square to join the “Trobada de percussió i malabars” (meeting of percussion and jugglers) organised by the Sant Boi "Grups de foc".
