The Algerian opera ‘Boualem Bessaih’ currently includes a performance by the Menorca-based pianist Marco Mezquida and the guitarist 'Chicuelo', thanks to Fira Mediterrània Manresa's national and international plan of action. The presentation in Algeria of the joint project, entitled 'Conexión', by the two musicians is co-organised by the Ramon Llull Institute and the Algerian Agency for Cultural Development (AARC).

As part of Fira Mediterrània's plan to promote Catalan artists internationally, Fira signed a collaboration agreement with the ARRC four years ago. Following on from this agreement, the band El-Dey performed in Manresa in 2014, and it was accompanied by a delegation of professionals from the AARC. Coming full circle, the Catalan Flamenco artist Pere Martínez performed in the prestigious Ibn Zeudoun concert hall in Algiers when he visited Africa for the first time as a result of the initiative by Fira Mediterrània.

The performance by Chicuelo & Marco Mezquida is part of this collaboration agreement, as the Ramon Llull Institute included 'Cabaret Catalan' in its programme at the 'Fiesta des Suds' in Marseilles (France) in 2016. This was the first international performance of the production, which had premièred at Fira Mediterrània only days before.
