From today until 8 July (with a pause on 2 and 3 July), Washington DC will host the 51st Smithsonian Folklife Festival, with Catalonia as its guest culture.

The Teatre Kursaal holds its first roundtable this morning, organised by the FiraMediterrània Manresa-Catalonia. It is a day of reflection, aimed at professionals fromthe cultural industries, entitled ‘Folk and World Musicians in Catalonia. Challenges and Opportunities’.
Today is World Music Day, an international festival held every year on 21 June, the first day of summer in the northern hemisphere. World Music Day aims to promote music in two ways: firstly, amateur musicians are encouraged to take to the streets to play their music, and secondly, many free concerts are organized, making all genres of music accessible to all sectors of the public. World Music Day was started in 1981 by Jack Lang when he was French Minister of Culture.
The fourth Propulse, a multidisciplinary showcase (music, theatre, dance, circus and street performance art) featuring artists from Belgium’s French community, is taking place from 2 to 6 February. Propulse’s line-up includes over 60 shows aimed at industry professionals and 15 productions for the general public. Tomorrow, Friday 19 September, the Fira Mediterrània Manresa will present its artistic and professional programme, as part of the 2014 Live Music Market Vic line-up. Today the 26th Mercat de Música Viva de Vic kicks off, an event that will run for the next four days. Vic will receive industry professionals from all areas of the music scene, people that have travelled far and wide to find out about new projects, attend forums, exchange ideas, and buy and sell music.
The winner will premiere their show at the 16th Fira Mediterrània of Manresa Present your project by 15 April to apply for the third Innovation in Popular Culture Grant, awarded by the Jaume Casademont Foundation in Girona and the Fira Mediterrània of Manresa Foundation. The winners will get the chance to premiere their show as part of the next Fira Mediterrània, due to be held from 7 to 10 November, plus €5,000 in prize money and a contract from Girona City Council.
On Saturday 22 February, Fira Mediterrània of Manresa will be taking part in an event organised by ConArte Internacional in Girona to talk about culturally-themed educational projects. During the event, over 20 educational arts projects are due to be presented, with themes based on using the arts in training programmes for young people, adults and communities, in schools, neighbourhoods, cities and on the international scene.
Celtic Connections, the largest winter music festival in the UK, hosts Showcase Scotland over the coming days. The line-up is targeted at international professionals, showcasing the latest musical developments in Scotland and taking a brief look at the music of a guest country, this year Brazil. Representatives of Fira Mediterrània will be there to meet music industry professionals from all round the world.

The 16th Fira Mediterrània of Manresa announces the last few days of the reduced rates for both the stands area in the Business Area and for professional accreditations for the Mediterrània Professional Meeting (from 7 to 10 November). Accreditation includes access to all the shows programmed, to conference sessions on the social impact of culture, to networking meetings and to the speed-dating sessions.
The singer, dancer and choreographer Isabel Vinardell and the guitarist Isabel Laudenbach will perform at Fira Mediterrània Business Area as part of the showcase line-up (20-minute artistic performances), replacing the Galician duo Uxía & Narf, who have had to cancel their performance due to health problems. Vinardell and Laudenbach present their first album on Saturday 8 October at 11.45 in the Fira Business Area.
Fira Mediterrania Manresa/Catalonia is looking forward to 17th edition between 9th to 12th October! Fira will open our Network Meetings, the tool to participate in the professional area. An opportunity to make contact with culture sector professionals from all over the world: artists, managers, cultural industries, cultural schedulers and managers, institutions, 3rd sector organisations, associations, publicity and marketing experts and much more.
Fira Mediterrània Manresa is at Mirabilia, the International Circus & Performing Arts Festival, as part of Fira’s National and International Action Plan. The Mirabilia Festival, which goes on until Sunday, takes place every summer in the Italian city of Fossano. This year, the programme features 140 contemporary circus and performing arts performances.
