Fira Mediterrània Connects the Culture of Fire with Illustration

The Terrassa-born artist Conrad Roset designs the poster for the 18th Fira 

The Manresa-based event has chosen one of the most in demand artists currently on the scene

In line with one of Fira Mediterrània's fundamental goals -to reach the most diverse selection of people possible- Fira has chosen to use an image by one of the most in demand artists currently on the scene. The illustrator, Conrad Roset, is acclaimed for his series of pictures inspired by the female universe. For Fira, Roset took the image of a woman's face, which he infused with vibrant colour, in a nod to popular culture, one of the main cornerstones of Fira Mediterrània, along with world music.

The poster

Roset’s poster consists of a portrait of a young woman (an 18 year-old, maybe, the same age as Fira itself. Why not?) who sports a devil’s cape, suggested by the outline of the portrait, but made strikingly obvious with her crowning horns. The girl in the portrait looks directly at the artist, in a haughty, proud and rebellious manner that only the gaze of youth permits; she is uninhibited and completely sure of herself. The use of colour, together with the girl's face, is the unequivocal focus of the piece. Red dominates, the colour of fiesta and fire.

The artist

Conrad Roset, born in Terrassa in 1984, has always been passionate about drawing. Since he was little, when he and his brother drew everything they took a fancy to, drawing has been a touchstone for Roset.  Years later, as a professional artist, he took his inspiration from women and created Muses, his most personal collection: "I seek beauty that emanates from the human body; I like drawing the female body".

Roset studied Art at Escola Joso and the Faculty of Fine Arts at Barcelona. Through the publication of his illustrations on-line, he began working for a well-known clothing brand. That was where he learnt the trade, became more disciplined and studied benchmark styles. Currently, he works freelance for different brands, advertising agencies and publishers.

He has had exhibitions at galleries and museums, including MOCA in Virginia, SpokeArt in San Francisco, London Milles in London, Tipos Infames in Madrid and Artevistas and Miscelanea in Barcelona. He also teaches Illustration at the BAU, School of Design. His style has been influenced by artists such as Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt.
