Sustainability

A project with values

Fira Mediterrània de Manresa, conscious of the fact that sustainability is now more essential than ever, is working to integrate the 2030 Agenda into its event and bring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) closer, creating a space for connection between culture and sustainable development, beyond the climate emergency and environmental sustainability.

Fira Mediterrània is committed to its surroundings, through an ongoing and sustained effort for sustainable and respectful management of the event on an environmental, social and economic level.

Fira Mediterrània de Manresa engages in a number of actions and measures that contribute to furthering a culture of sustainability.

Measures

  • Production of printed materials
Reducing the production of printed promotional material for the Fira. Gradually replacing materials with sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives.

  • Sustainable, plantable and biodegradable accreditations
Made from recycled materials that contain seeds inside. Can be planted instead of thrown away after the event.

  • Monomaterial canvas banners
Made from chlorine-free material, eliminating the risk of releasing dioxins and other chlorinated compounds into the environment. Free of cadmium and other heavy metals and phthalates. No polluting hydraulic fluids are used in their manufacture. Printing is achieved using environmentally friendly UVI inks. The material is recyclable.

  • Merchandising bags
    Made from 100% organic cotton.

  • Street vendors, food trucks and the like
Street vendors and the like must comply with requirements that have been established with regard to sustainability. These are both general (e.g. ensuring separated waste collection, LED lighting, natural gas generators, etc.) and specific depending on the operation (use of recyclable and/or biodegradable materials and measures to prevent food waste).

  • Sustainable consumable products
Use of reusable cups and bottles for audiences and performers.

  • Carbon footprint (approximate calculation)
    MORE INFO HERE
Raising awareness of, reducing and offsetting the carbon footprint through specific actions:
    - Consumption of electricity and generators.
    - Promoting sustainable transport for professionals, artists and the attending public.
    - Calculating greenhouse gas emissions associated with the hosting of the event (calculation of the energy emissions of the performance venues and the travel of all participants, from the registration form).

During the last event, Fira calculated the carbon dioxide emissions produced by its activities and offset the emissions that could not be minimised by collaborating with a wind energy project being conducted at the Edincik Wind Power Plant in Turkey.

    - Commitment to offsetting emissions that could not be minimised.
    - Giving participants the opportunity to offset their carbon footprint.

  • Suppliers, procurement of services and purchasing of products
We work with local professionals and prioritise products made by third sector companies: social initiative cooperatives, integration companies, non-profit foundations, etc.

  • Evaluating the satisfaction of participants with regard to sustainability
Participants are asked about sustainability in the Fira's satisfaction survey.

  • Considering societal challenges when designing artistic and professional programming, including the 2030 Agenda
Equal opportunities and non-discrimination: collaboration with the Lledoners Prison and/or other groups.
    - Communication through inclusive, non-discriminatory and prejudice-free language (written and visual).
    - Promoting gender equality by emphasising parity in the artistic/professional programme.
    - Raising awareness of social issues through artistic/professional programming.
  • Accessibility and inclusion
    - We are involved in social programmes that aim to use culture to improve the lives of people in vulnerable situations.
    - We are working to create an accessible website that can be used by the maximum number of people, irrespective of their knowledge or personal abilities.
